While we’re distracted by the trillion dollar bailout, Congress today is voting on HR 2343, Education Begins At Home Act. (Proposed by Hillary Clinton. Basically, that’s all you need to know)
For example, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Education Begins at Home Act (H.R. 2343), a bill to expand Head Start and several other government programs, such as early childhood home visitation, would cost taxpayers over $190 million dollars. Another proposed “nanny state” bill that would increase government control over early education, the Pre-K Act (H.R. 3289), would cost taxpayers a whopping $500 million for each fiscal year through 2013—a grand total of $2.5 billion over the next five years.
Call John Tanner and Marsha Blackburn and let them know that we don’t need MORE government involvement in our lives, and we don’t need more SPENDING!

I called Congressman Tanner’s Washington office and spoke with a really nice staffer who I think was relieved to get a call about something other than the bailout. She even asked for a summary of the reasons I opposed this bill, and asked for all my contact info. I gave 3 reasons: unwise spending (400 million over 27 months) on unproven program; invites future intrusion in private family matters; duplication of services already available for free from health, charitable, and social services organizations.
