Mike,
I was listening to your show this morning (like I do every morning) and heard you say that many people don’t remember what they were doing last year at this time, like they would 7 years ago at this time. That is very true. However, I wanted to share with you my memory of 2 years ago at this time, because I remember it as well as 7 years ago.
Two years ago on 9/11, I was driving from Jackson to Henderson for college classes that morning. The radio station I was listening to was playing a remembrance piece with quotes and music about 9/11. It was a very moving piece. As I listened and remembered, I passed the South Jackson fire station where the firefighters were all facing the flag and saluting it. I had tears in my eyes from the moving piece on the radio, but when I saw the firefighters saluting, I lost it.
The attacks of 9/11 hit close to home for me. Being in Roanoke, Virginia in high school during the attacks, made it a scary feeling knowing that the Pentagon was only 4 hours from me. It also hit close to home because my father is a firefighter and has been for almost 20 years. We sometimes joke with my dad about how “all he does is watch tv or workout” when he’s at the fire station and he always jokingly responds back “they don’t pay me for what I do, it’s what I’m willing to do.” How true that really is. The service men and women of America put their lives at risk everyday to secure our freedom and safety.
Today I will remember all of those on 9/11 who gave their lives for a cause greater than themselves.
Thank you for the topic discussed this morning and thank you for the good job you do with your show.
Sincerely,
Heather
