Tom Leatherwood has repeatedly criticized Marsha Blackburn over the last 3 months of this campaign which can be seen in the Commercial Appeal and from his appearance on the Mike Fleming Show for voting against funding for the MED.
“She voted against money for the MED. If anyone in this listening audience were in a car crash you are going to the trauma center at the MED. I know that’s not in the 7th Congressional District but I will be an advocate for the district. I will be an advocate for the MED. She voted against money for the MED yet she voted for earmarks for the Appalachians to $300K for the Houston Zoo. Now these are key differences in the way we would vote.”- Tom Leatherwood on the Mike Fleming Show, 4.25.08
His words speak for themselves. After bashing Marsha Blackburn for not supporting the MED he ends with “these are key differences in the way we would vote.”

Mr. Slater,
Unnecessary? Wasn’t it you who was drooling all over Blackburn a few weeks back? This is your girl! Did you see her lame answer to Mike Mathews?
It’s pathetic for Blackburn to try to make a jump from what Leatherwood said to what she has printed on that mailer. In any other type of affair where normal people interact, that would be called lieing.

You would almost think Leatherwood never served in the senate, never had to turn down a good piece of legislation because it had a really bad provision in it — like Blackburn did with SCHIP. Did he even bother to read the reviews of the legislation by conservative groups? The mailer is pretty harsh, but Leatherwood set himself up for it. No sympathy here.

I read the mailer and agree with it 100%. What’s the problem? It’s not a negative campaign tactic and not coming form a ‘mean dude’ when IT’S TRUE. Sounds like the Leatherwood camp is taking pages from Obama’s peeps.
